HISTORY
History is one of the distinctive qualities that makes Boston such a special place. At once the birthplace of our country and the incubator of our future. The same can be said of our predecessor, the Algonquin Club. Founded in 1886, 50 visionary individuals sought to create a club that combined the Old Boston with the New Boston. With membership based upon talent, virtue and the companionability of those with common interests rather than lineage or aristocracy it was heralded by The Boston Globe to bring “inestimable benefit” to the city. The Algonquin Club fulfilled its purpose from inception, to be a progressive force in Boston. Members contributed to the greatest and most rapid period of innovation and progress, and the club played host to some of the most exemplary citizens across the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. With a deep reference for the clubs rich past, we look to the future of The ‘Quin House.
